Attendance

Student attendance for classroom and clinical activities is essential for the development of high caliber knowledge and skills in the allied health sciences. Learning objectives cannot be met with frequent absences, tardiness, or leaving didactic or clinical education early. KPSAHS reserves the right to impose remedial work on its students, require clinical make-up, or reduce academic or clinical grades. Excessive absenteeism or patterns of attendance abuse will result in grade reduction or disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from the program

Withdrawals

Any student in good academic standing is permitted a one-time voluntary withdrawal from their Program. A student in good academic standing is successfully passing each course and does not have an active Student Grade Status and Advisory Notice.

To formally withdraw the student must adhere to the following process:

  • Deliver a written letter of withdrawal to the program director specifying the reason for withdrawal and effective date of the action
  • Meet with the program director to discuss the request.

If a student withdraws without written notification or fails to follow the KPSAHS process for withdrawal from a program, a failing grade will be assigned for each course in which the student is currently enrolled. If a student withdraws following proper withdrawal protocol a grade of “I” will be assigned for each course in which the student is currently enrolled. Students will not receive a certificate of completion until courses with a grade of "I" are successfully completed. Students have until the completion of the course at its next offering to make up the "I" grade. If course requirements are not completed within the time indicated, a grade of "F" will be recorded and the GPA adjusted accordingly.

Re-admissions

Re-admission is not guaranteed and is dependent upon the availability of didactic and clinical space. If such space is not available, the student will not be allowed to re-enter the program.

A student who withdraws from a program is given one opportunity to apply for re-admission. The student may be re-admitted within one year from the time of withdrawal. To be re-admitted, a written request must be delivered to his/her program director 6 months prior to the anticipated date of re-admission. The letter must include a statement of why he/she will successfully complete the program if students are re-admitted. Students have a one year period for re-admission into a program.

Students who are re-admitted to any program are subject to paying all required course fees and completing remedial course work to ensure that program learning objectives are met. All re-admitted students must return and complete one quarter of clinical education before returning to their program’s didactic courses. This clinical time does not satisfy official program clinical hour requirements. The student and program director will sign a written agreement of terms for re-admission. The student will not be re-admitted if he/she fails to complete the agreement requirements by the due date.
